AIBE work experience student Tim O’Brien’s paper titled ‘Blockchain and Central Banking: an investigation into distributed ledger technology and central bank digital currency’, is looking at some of the applications that technology could have on central banks and monetary policy in Australia.
The paper concludes by suggesting that there is a case for the Reserve Bank of Australia to look into experimental research on the implications of introducing a central bank digital currency and investigate further the current limitations of distributed ledger technology from the Reserve Bank's perspective.
Mr O'Brien is participating in the BEL Faculty Student Employability Team's Student Work Experience Program (SWEP).
