UQ CHARGE-EV Project
When's the best time to charge my electric vehicle?
About our research
Using field data and surveys to study electric vehicle (EV) charging in Australia, this research will inform EV owners, policymakers, and industry to support the development of an EV transition that benefits consumers and the grid.

Charging in a sun-soaked grid: can incentives shift when electric vehicles charge?
As electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Australia begins to take off, the demand for electricity to power these vehicles will also increase. When and how EVs are charged is important for managing the transition to net zero and maintaining grid reliability.
In this webinar, our expert panel presented the outcomes of the UQ Charge-EV project. Funded by Energy Consumer’s Australia’s Grants Program, this project aimed to build a web-portal to visualise real time driving and charging of EVs in Australia, and test the effectiveness of providing incentives to shift charging of vehicles towards the middle of the day when solar power is more readily available.
