Researcher biography

Peter Higgs is an economist by training and has extensive international experience in funds management.  Peter attended La Trobe University from 1977 to 1980 where he graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Economics and won the DM Myers University Medal.  He then worked in applied economic research at the Impact Project and went on to do a PhD in Economics at Harvard University from 1982 to 1986. 

After graduating he returned to Australia and to the Impact Project where he became acting Director for a short period.  He then worked at the Melbourne Business School where held the academic position of a Reader.  At that time he also won the Australia Medal for excellence in research which is awarded by the Academy of Social Sciences.

In 1990 he moved to Brisbane to take up a position as head of asset allocation at Suncorp Investments.  In 1997 he founded Tactical Global Management (TGM), an asset management company that today manages over $20 billion in its investment programs.  TGM is a specialist in global asset allocation overlays which includes currency overlays.  

Peter is now based in London, UK.  He is Executive Chairman of TGM, a non-Executive Director of Queensland European Investment Services Ltd. (a subsidiary of the Queensland Investment Corporation of Australia) and a non-Executive Director of Truestone Impact Investment Management (a company that invests in humanitarian and environmental projects).  Peter is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).
