Researcher biography

Dr Yawei Jiang is a Post-doc Fellow at UQ Business School at The University of Queensland. She has obtained her PhD degress at the University of Queensland, with the research topic focusing on how to improve tourism organisations and businesses' interaction with the changing global environment (e.g. natural disasters) by looking at the development and deployment of dynamic capabilities in the tourism industry. She also graduated from Sun Yat-Sen University in 2014 with a Bachelor degree in Management and graduated with a BIHTM Honours (Class I) degree from UQ with a research focus on stakeholder collaboration in tourism crisis/disaster management (TCDM).

Dr Yawei Jiang's research interests include strategic management in TCDM, organisational recovery and resilience in managing environmental uncertainties, and risk communication strategies for tourism destinations. She has published several academic articles in peer-reviewed journals (including Tourism Management, Journal of Travel Research, Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Current Issues in Tourism) as well as book chapters in the relevant field. She also works as the senior lab coordinator for the Business School Behavioural Science Laboratory and has helped with several projects that collect data from eye-tracking, skin conductance, and electromyography. She aims to build her research career in crisis/disaster management field and further develop her research skills and contributions through collaboration across disciplines. She has 7-year teaching experience since 2015, acting as a sessional course coordinator and lecturer at the Business School.

Dr Yawei Jiang has committed to participating in various research projects, engaging in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, contributing to multiple administrative roles, and building industry networks. She has participated in the Tripartite Research Workshop between UQ, Surrey and Sun Yat-Sen universities from 2017 to 2019. She was also invited to contribute to the Go8 (The Group of Eight) 'Australian Roadmap to Recover and Sustain' project team to provide suggestions for COVID-19 business recovery, collaborating with researchers across Australia from multiple disciplines. She has also worked for an international tourism advisory group – EarthCheck – as a placement intern for three months and was involved in several government consultancy projects on 'business risk diagnostic' and 'regional camping analysis'.
